Privacy policy

This policy explains what information the Custom Calendar Background browser extension (“the extension”) and the website customcalendarbackground.com (“the site”) collect, why, and what control you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.

In short: your images and settings stay in your browser. We only store your email address and plan status if you sign in for Pro. We don’t sell data, show ads or use tracking analytics.

1. Information stored only on your device

  • Background images you add are resized and saved in your browser’s extension storage (chrome.storage.local). They are never sent to us.
  • Settings (background type, colors, readability, blur, theme, language) are saved in Chrome’s extension storage (chrome.storage.sync). If you have Chrome Sync turned on, Google syncs these settings between your own devices under Google’s privacy policy. We cannot read them.

2. Information we process to provide Pro

Pro is optional. If you sign in to unlock Pro:

  • Google sign-in: we request only your email address (scopes openid and email). Google confirms your verified email to our server. We do not receive your password, contacts, calendar events or any other Google data.
  • Account record: our server stores your email address, when you signed in, whether you started a free trial, and a random session token.
  • Purchases: payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy tells our server your email address, plan, subscription status, renewal/end dates and a link to manage your subscription. We never see your card details.

Our server runs on Cloudflare (Cloudflare Workers and D1 database).

3. What the extension does not do

  • It does not read, store or transmit your Google Calendar events or any page content.
  • It runs only on calendar.google.com and does not access other websites.
  • It contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information, or use it for advertising, credit or lending decisions.

4. Google user data — Limited Use

The extension’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use your email address only to provide and support Pro, and we don’t transfer it except to the service providers listed here as needed to run the service, or when required by law.

5. The website

The site does not use cookies or tracking scripts. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes basic technical data (such as IP address) to deliver pages and protect against abuse. If we enable Cloudflare Web Analytics, it is cookieless and collects only aggregate visit data.

7. Retention and deletion

Uninstalling the extension deletes images and settings stored in your browser. We keep your account record while you use Pro. To delete it, email support@customcalendarbackground.com from the address you signed in with; we delete it within 30 days. Lemon Squeezy keeps transaction records as required by tax law.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or KVKK in Türkiye), you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or object to its processing. Email us and we’ll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Children

The extension is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.

10. Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above and, for material changes, notify Pro users by email or in the extension.
